EASL, the European Association for the Study of the Liver, founded in 1966, is a medical association dedicated to pursuing excellence in liver research, to the clinical practice of liver disorders, and to providing education to all those interested in hepatology. As of 2024, EASL serves 7,700 members.

Leadership & Governance

Governing Board

The EASL Governing Board is composed of 15 scientific experts. The EASL Governing Board is dedicated to the pursuit of excellence in hepatology, liver research, and the clinical practice of liver disorders.

Secretary General

The Secretary General is the Chief Executive of the association for a period of two years having already served as Vice-Secretary.

The Vice-Secretary serves for two years in close collaboration with the Secretary General and will become the next Secretary General in term.

Treasurer

The Treasurer has been elected by the EASL assembly as a non-voting member of the Governing Board for a second term of five years. All Governing Board members share responsibility for the society’s finances.

Educational Councillor

The Educational Councillor was elected for a 4-year term by the EASL General Assembly.

The Public Health Councillor was elected for a 4-year term by the EASL General Assembly.

External Affairs Councillor

The External Affairs Councillor serves as liaison between the EASL Governing Board, EASL Management Committee, and the EASL Office in relation to said EASL policies. The External Affairs Councillor reports to the Secretary General.

The Internal Affairs Councillor serves as liaison between the EASL Governing Board, EASL Management Committee, and the EASL Office in relation to said EASL policies. The Internal Affairs Councillor reports to the Secretary General.
