In April 1966, EASL began as a small group of 70 hepatologists from 15 European countries who came together to share expertise in best medical practices.

Now with over 4,500 members from all over the world, EASL is an influential international organisation. It attracts the foremost hepatology experts as members and has an impressive track record in promoting research in liver disease, supporting wider education, and promoting changes in European liver policy. EASL gathers those interested in the liver from all over the world.

EASL membership is valid per calendar year (01 January – 31 December) and includes:

Membership categories:

Regular - as a Regular member, you reside in Europe or Israel.

How:

  • It is possible to become an EASL member and renew your EASL membership all year long
  • Register online or at an EASL booth present at many liver meetings
  • The EASL Governing Board oversees all applications
  • Within a month of your application, you will receive your EASL membership number

Corresponding member - as a Corresponding member, you reside in an non-European country.

How:

  • It is possible to become an EASL member and renew your EASL membership all year long
  • Register online or at an EASL booth present at many liver meetings
  • The EASL Governing Board oversees all applications
  • Within a month of your application, you will receive your EASL membership number

Trainees/YI - as a Trainee/Young Investigator (YI) member you will be requested to provide a proof of age and trainee status (e.g. copy of ID and letter from head of department or trainee status from your institution).

How:

  • It is possible to become an EASL member and renew your EASL membership all year long
  • Register online or at an EASL booth present at many liver meetings
  • The EASL Governing Board oversees all applications
  • Within a month of your application, you will receive your EASL membership number

Emeritus - as an Emeritus member:

  1. You would be requested to provide a proof of age (e.g. copy of ID)
  2. You should have been an EASL member for at least 10 years

How:

  • It is possible to become an EASL member and renew your EASL membership all year long
  • Register online or at an EASL booth present at many liver meetings
  • The EASL Governing Board oversees all applications
  • Within a month of your application, you will receive your EASL membership number

Nurses - as a Nurse member you will be requested to provide a proof of nurse status (e.g. copy of ID and letter from head of department or nurse status from institution).

How:

  • It is possible to become an EASL member and renew your EASL membership all year long
  • Register online or at an EASL booth present at many liver meetings
  • The EASL Governing Board oversees all applications
  • Within a month of your application, you will receive your EASL membership number

Patients - as a patient no proof of status is required.

How:

  • It is possible to become an EASL member and renew your EASL membership all year long

  • The EASL Governing Board oversees all applications
  • Within a month of your application, you will receive your EASL membership number

Allied Health Professionals member - as an AHP member, you will be requested to provide a proof of status.

  • Within a month of your application, you will receive your EASL membership number

Definition of AHPs:

Allied health encompasses a broad group of health professionals who use scientific principles and evidence-based practice for the diagnosis, evaluation and treatment of acute and chronic diseases; promote disease prevention and wellness for optimum health and apply administration and management skills to support health care systems in a variety of settings. The following professions (non-exhaustive list) can be included under the AHP category: (Dietitians, Physiotherapists, Pharmacists, Clinical Psychologists, Imaging Specialists, Orthoptists, Occupational Therapists, Paramedics, Study Coordinators, Laboratory Assistants, Physician’s Assistants on case management (clinic), Pathology Assistants, Assistants of geriatric care, Medical Social Workers, …)

Important notice

  1. Payment – To apply for EASL membership, please complete the online application form and pay your membership fee online (with a secure online payment system) or offline (by credit card, wire transfer).
  2. Period – Annual EASL membership is entered per calendar year (from 01 January to 31 December).
  3. How:
    • It is possible to become an EASL member and renew your EASL membership all year long

    • The EASL Governing Board oversees all applications
    • Within a month of your application, you will receive your EASL membership number
  4. ILC – Those who apply for EASL membership after 31 December will not be entitled to the “EASL members” reduced registration fees to the International Liver Congress™.
  5. Journal – Members paying to receive the hard copy/printed version of the Journal of Hepatology will receive their issues two months after their renewal or after having received their membership number.
  6. Complimentary membership to members in maternity, paternity or adoption leave for one calendar year – Following the decision of the Governing Board in March 2018, all EASL members are entitled to a complimentary membership for a calendar year providing that they are on maternity, paternity or adoption leave. This action gives the opportunity to EASL members who are on leave for family reasons to stay up to date with the latest trends of hepatology, continue reading the Journal of Hepatology and follow EASL events online.
    • Members need to contact the EASL Office at membership@easloffice.eu Requests will be handled exclusively offline during the year
    • Proof is required and must be uploaded on the member profile
    • Complimentary membership does not lead to complimentary registration to ILC. Members are eligible for reduced fees
    • This offer cannot be extended to more than one calendar year
