Join the EASL Governance!

EASL is now calling for applications for three new members to join the Scientific Committee.  

The mandate of the EASL Scientific Committee is to provide scientific expertise and support to EASL Governing Board and EASL office in the development and monitoring of the scientific activities of the organisation supporting EASL’s strategic decisions. 

Members of the Scientific Committee are part of the Governing Board and as such are expected to attend monthly conference calls with the Scientific Committee, mandatory Governing Board meetings (both digital and in-person), as well as representation at EASL Congress and other events. (More information available upon request).  

Term: 

The term for these members is from June 2024 to (and including) the EASL Congress 2027. 

The call is open from 18 December 2023 to 18 February 2024 (23:59 CET). 

Eligibility criteria: 

• The candidate must be an EASL member when applying. 
• To ensure adequate representation of all EASL tracks applicants with a strong scientific track record in the following fields will be preferred: 
  • Cirrhosis 
  • SLD 
  • Liver Tumours 
  • Viral Hepatitis 
• The candidate must be professionally active in a European country, as defined by the World Health Organisation.  
• To maintain geographical diversity, professionals working in the following countries are excluded from this call, as they are already represented in the Scientific Committee: Belgium, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal, and Romania. 
• The candidate must be under 48 years of age in June 2024 (in case of official parental leave, the eligible age is calculated by deducting the documented months of parental leave in accordance with applicable EU regulations from their actual age).

 Review process: 

• All submitted applications will be reviewed for eligibility by the EASL office. 
• All eligible applications will be reviewed by current EASL’s Governing Board members.  
• The EASL Scientific Committee will base their selection on the following criteria:  
  • candidate profile 
  • inclusivity and heterogeneity (with the aim of composing a Scientific Committee that is representative of the EASL community in terms of scientific fields, countries, experience) 
  • diversity, in accordance with the EASL equality, diversity and inclusion policy statement. 
• Shortlisted candidates will be invited for an interview with the current EASL Governing Board.  
  • The interview will consist of a five-minute presentation by the candidate, covering their qualifications and motivation for joining the Scientific Committee, followed by twenty-minute Q&A session with the Governing Board. 
• The successful candidates will be presented to the EASL General Assembly in June 2024. Their appointment to the Scientific Committee is dependent on confirmation by and at the General Assembly.

The EASL Educational Committee provides scientific expertise and support to the EASL Governing Board and EASL office, in the development and monitoring of a high-quality portfolio of educational offerings in support of EASL’s educational strategy and commitment to remaining a worldwide reference in liver-related education. The Educational Committee’s role is to contribute to the continuous education and professional development of hepatologists and other specialists, general practitioners, clinical and basic scientists, as well as nurses and patients.  

The Educational Committee members are responsible for coordinating the development of:  

• EASL Schools of Hepatology   
• EASL Post-graduate course (PGC)  
• EASL educational products and services   

Educational Committee members are expected to be able to attend monthly conference calls, and an annual face-to-face meeting at EASL Congress. 

Term: 

The term for these members is three years, and the starting dates will be staggered. 

• Position 1: June 2024 – June 2027 
• Position 2: September 2024 – September 2027 
• Positions 3 & 4: December 2024 – December 2027 

The call is open from 18 December 2023 to 18 February 2024 (23:59 CET). 

Eligibility criteria:  

• The candidate must be an EASL member when applying.   
• The candidate must have an MD and/or PhD. 
• The candidate must be living in a European country, as defined by the World Health Organisation. 
• No age limit applies to this call for applications.

The mandate of the EASL Policy, Public Health, and Advocacy (PPHA) Committee is to provide EASL with expert scientific and policy guidance to pursue its policy and public affairs mission.

The PPHA Committee will be involved in EASL’s strategy as follows: 

• provide state-of-the-art scientific advice on all areas of liver health, research, treatment and liver disease prevention as required for the EASL PPHA work areas related to health and public policy, advocacy and research.  
• assist in and oversee the design, development and implementation of EASL public affairs strategies and work plans. 
• assist in and oversee the design, development, and implementation of EASL public affairs advocacy campaigns and strategies. 
• develop and oversee the public health sessions and content at EASL Congress and at all EASL events, potentially review abstracts for EASL Congress. 
• assist in identifying additional external experts (including, where relevant and necessary patients and non-hepatologists) who could support the work of the EASL public affairs department on a project-by-project basis. 
• identify expert speakers when requested for participation in external events and meetings and for interviews with the media. 
• identify experts to sit on EU and other institutional advisory boards and act as liaison points between those institutions, bodies and EASL where requested. 
• develop and draft Policy Statements on topics relevant to EASL’s public affairs activities. 
• work closely with other EASL departments and initiatives such as membership, fellowships, fundraising, education to identify and improve synergies across all departments for the benefit of liver health, research and treatment, patients and EASL members. 
• identify and propose new PPHA Committee members to the Governing Board. 
• coordinate and oversee the EASL cooperation with patient associations working in the field of liver issues  
• undertake other assignments which may be identified by the Governing Board or the Committee itself. 

PPHA Committee members are expected to be able to attend monthly conference calls, and an annual face-to-face meeting at EASL Congress. 

Term:  

The term for these members is from June 2024 to (and including) the EASL Congress 2027. 

The call is open from 18 December 2023 to 18 February 2024 (23:59 CET). 

Eligibility criteria:  

• The candidate must be an EASL member when applying.   
• The candidate must have an MD and/or a degree in public health.  
• The candidate must be living in a European country, as defined by the World Health Organisation.
• No age limit applies to this call for applications.   
• EASL embraces diversity and would particularly welcome female applicants and those from under-represented ethnic groups.

• a letter of motivation and your aspirations for joining the PPHA Committee  
• an updated CV  
• a summary of your experience in Policy and Public Health and scientific achievements (including a list of your publications, h-index, grant income, as applicable). 

Review process:  

• All submitted applications will be reviewed for eligibility by the EASL office. 
• All eligible applications will be reviewed by EASL’s Public Health Councillor and the PPHA Committee members.  
• The EASL PPHA Committee will base their selection on the following criteria:  
  • candidate profile 
  • inclusivity and heterogeneity (with the aim of composing a PPHA Committee that is representative of the EASL community in terms of scientific fields, countries, experience) 
  • diversity, in accordance with the EASL equality, diversity and inclusion policy statement. 
• Shortlisted candidates may be invited for a max. 45-minute interview with the EASL PPHA Committee.  
  • The interview will consist of a five-minute presentation from the candidate covering their qualifications and motivation for becoming a member of the Policy & Public Health Committee, followed by a Q&A session. 
• The EASL Governing Board will validate the decision of the PPHA Committee, prior to presenting the successful candidates to the EASL General Assembly in June 2024. Their appointment to the PPHA Committee is dependent on confirmation by and at the General Assembly.

The mandate of the Young Investigators Task Force is to contribute to educational activities aimed at Young Investigators in the wider liver community and to engage the next generation of liver disease experts. 

The Young Investigators Task Force advises the EASL Governing Board and the EASL Office on the following activities: 

• YIs Symposium, dealing with topics of interest for YIs that are not covered by other sessions at EASL Congress. The scope of the Symposium is scientific.  
• YI Workshops at EASL Congress 
• YI Networking Event, a social event taking place on Thursday evening during the on-site EASL Congress aiming to enhance networking between the YIs.   
• YI Webinar series 
• Reviews and recommendations regarding the EASL Emerging Leader Awards. 
• Communication/Newsletters: Members advise the EASL Office on communication actions for social media and newsletter creation, sent to YIs every three months. 
• When preparing EASL Congress, EASL Summits, EASL Studio episodes and other events, the YI Task Force may be consulted for ideas, suggestions, and input.  

YI Task Force members are expected to be able to attend bi-monthly conference calls, and an annual face-to-face meeting at EASL Congress. 

Term: 

Young Investigators Task Force members serve for a period of three years. The term for these three positions is from June 2024 to June 2027. 

The call is open from 18 December 2023 to 18 February 2024 (23:59 CET). 

Eligibility criteria: 

• The candidate must be professionally active in a European country, as defined by the World Health Organisation.  
• The candidate must be an EASL member when applying.  
• The candidate should be preferably under 35 years of age (may be extended up to 40 years old in lieu of parental leave) in June 2024 (in case of official parental leave, the eligible age is calculated by deducting the documented months of parental leave in accordance with applicable EU regulations from their actual age).  
• For the new members, all backgrounds are eligible, but a particular attention will be paid to candidates with a strong background in liver tumours, liver transplantation, cirrhosis and related complications, and viral hepatitis. 
• The task force already has members from Spain and the United Kingdom. Candidates from other countries are especially encouraged to apply.

  • The interview will consist of a five-minute presentation by the candidate, covering their qualifications and motivation for joining the Young Investigator Task Force, followed by a Q&A session with the Young Investigator Task Force members. 
• Successful candidates will be presented to the EASL Governing Board. Their appointment is dependent on Governing Board approval.

Are you supporting and advancing care for people with liver disease through clinical excellence or research?  

Are you ready to shape the educational/research and clinical priorities of EASL’s Nurses and Allied Health Professionals Task Force? 

Since it was founded in 2016, the Nurses and AHPs Task Force has grown from strength to strength. EASL is now calling for nominations for two new members for this Task Force. 

Task Force members are expected to be able to attend monthly conference calls, and an annual face-to-face meeting at EASL Congress.

Term: 

The term for these members is from June 2024 to EASL Congress 2027 (June 2027). 

Eligibility criteria:  

• The candidate must be professionally active in a European country, as defined by the World Health Organisation.
• The candidate must be an EASL member when applying.
• Particular attention will be paid to male candidates to maintain gender balance in the Task Force, in accordance with the EASL equality, diversity, and inclusion policy statement.
• Preference will be given to applicants in the field of nutrition.
• As the Task Force already has members from Denmark, Spain, Austria and the United Kingdom and Switzerland, candidates from other countries are especially encouraged to apply.

  • The interview will consist of a five-minute presentation by the candidate, covering their qualifications and motivation for joining the Task Force, followed by a Q&A session with the Task Force members. 
• Successful candidates will be presented to the EASL Governing Board. Their appointment is dependent on Governing Board approval.
