Module 1: the basics of MASLD

This module provides a comprehensive overview of Metabolic Dysfunction-Associated Steatotic Liver Disease (MASLD), covering pathophysiology (basic level), epidemiology, natural histology, and screening/diagnosis using non-invasive tests. Through lectures and hands-on workshops, participants will gain the practical skills necessary for interpreting non-invasive tests, performing liver elastography, and designing screening pathways to optimize the management of patients with MASLD.

Academy Organisers: Jérôme Boursier

Please note that the programme is subject to change, and will be updated continuously up to the event.

Aims

  • To learn the basics of the pathophysiology of MASLD.
  • To understand the rationale for screening at-risk patients in MASLD.
  • To gain comprehensive knowledge of the different non-invasive tests available.
  • To know how to use non-invasive tests to accurately identify at-risk patients.

Learning objectives

  • Learn the basics of the pathophysiology of MASLD.
  • Understand the rationale for screening in light of the epidemiology and natural history of MASLD.
  • Gain knowledge of non-invasive tests for screening, diagnosis, risk stratification, and correct interpretation.
  • Acquire competence in measuring liver stiffness using elastography devices through practical workshop.
  • Develop practical strategies to implement a screening pathway within your professional network.

Top 3 reasons to attend

  • Learn from expert faculty and gain insight into evidence-based MASLD management.
  • Acquire hands-on experience with elastography devices and practical MASLD assessment tools.
  • Network with peers and faculty to discuss case-based approaches and challenges in MASLD care.

Target audience

  • Hepatogastroenterologists interested in MASLD.
  • Internists and primary care physicians involved in liver disease screening.
  • Stakeholders and healthcare professionals involved in metabolic and liver disease management.
