Join the EASL Educational Committee!

EASL Educational Committee

The EASL Educational Committee provides scientific expertise and support to the EASL Governing Board and EASL office, in the development and monitoring of a high-quality portfolio of educational offerings in support of EASL’s educational strategy and commitment to remaining a worldwide reference in liver-related education. The Educational Committee’s role is to contribute to the continuous education and professional development of hepatologists and other specialists, general practitioners, clinical and basic scientists, as well as nurses and patients. 

The Educational Committee members are responsible for coordinating the development of:   

  • EASL Schools of Hepatology    
  • EASL Postgraduate course (PGC)   
  • EASL educational products and services    

Educational Committee members are expected to be able to attend monthly conference calls, and an annual face-to-face meeting at EASL Congress.  

Term

The term for these members is three years, and the starting date will be in March 2025.  

The call is open from 29 July to 15 September 2024 (23:59 CEST).

Eligibility criteria

  • The candidate must be an EASL member when applying.    
  • To ensure adequate representation of all EASL tracks, applicants with a strong scientific track record in the following fields will be preferred:  
    • Immune-mediated and cholestatic diseases 
    • Cirrhosis and complications 
  • To maintain age diversity, one of the two candidates should be below the age of 40. 
  • The candidate must have an MD and/or PhD.  
  • The candidate must be living in a European country, as defined by the World Health Organisation.  
  • To maintain geographical diversity, professionals working outside of the following countries will be preferred, as they are already represented in the Educational Committee: Belgium, Croatia, Greece, Italy, and the United Kingdom. 
  • EASL embraces diversity and would particularly welcome female applicants and those from under-represented ethnic groups.   

Your application should include

  • A letter explaining your personal motivation and aspirations for joining the EASL Educational Committee, as well as a summary of your educational activities/experience.
  • An updated CV. 
  • A summary of your scientific achievements (including a list of your publications, h-index (Scopus), and grant income, as applicable). 

Review process

  • All submitted applications will be reviewed for eligibility by the EASL office.  
  • All eligible applications will be reviewed by EASL’s Educational Councillor and the current Educational Committee members.   
  • The EASL Educational Committee will base their selection on the following criteria:   
    • Candidate profile, including motivation and experience.
    • Inclusivity and heterogeneity (with the aim of composing an Educational Committee that is representative of the EASL community in terms of scientific fields, countries, experience).  
    • Diversity, in accordance with the EASL equality, diversity and inclusion policy statement.  
  • Shortlisted candidates may be invited for an interview with the current EASL Educational Committee.   
    • The interview will consist of a five-minute presentation by the candidate, covering their qualifications and motivation for joining the Educational Committee, followed by a Q&A session with the interview panel.  
  • Selected candidates should take part to a mandatory meeting on 20-22 January 2025 in Lisbon, Portugal. 
  • The EASL Governing Board will validate the decision of the Educational Committee, prior to presenting the successful candidates to the EASL Extraordinary General Assembly in November 2024. Their appointment to the Educational Committee is dependent on confirmation by and at the Extraordinary General Assembly.
