Javier Escalada
Currently, Dr Escalada is the Director of the Department of Endocrinology & Nutrition of the Clínica Universidad de Navarra.
His field of expertise is in diabetes mellitus, obesity, metabolic-associated steatotic liver disease and other metabolic disorders. In this line, his research interests lie in diabetes and cardiovascular risk, diabetic kidney disease and MASL. In addition, Dr Escalada is Associate Professor of the School of Medicine of the University of Navarra. He performed the Residency in Endocrinology and Nutrition at the Ramón y Cajal Hospital in Madrid (1988 -1991), and subsequently carried out Research Fellowships (1992 and 1993) supported by the FIS programme to obtain his PhD from the University Alcala de Henares (1994). He has received numerous distinctions and honours among which being President of the Spanish Society of Endocrinology and Nutrition (2020-23) stands out. Within the SEEN he contributes to the Diabetes Working Group, as well as the Lipids Working Group. Moreover, Prof. Escalada has also been Deputy Chief Editor of the journal Endocrinología, Diabetes y Nutrición. Currently, Prof. Escalada serves as President of the Spanish Society of Endocrinology and Nutrition Foundation.

Gema Frühbeck
Prof. Gema Frühbeck (RNutr, MD, PhD) combines everyday work in the clinical setting as Co-Director of the Obesity Area of the Clínica Universidad de Navarra (Pamplona, Spain), with basic research as Head of the Metabolic Research Laboratory of the University of Navarra and Project Leader of the CIBEROBN (Centre of Excellence Network in Obesity and Nutrition of the Spanish Institute of Health).
The efforts of her group are focused on studying the impact of adiposity on the development of obesity-related complications. Frühbeck’s group has taken the step forward of using body composition measurements routinely in the clinical assessment of patients in order to analyse the relevance of body fat -beyond BMI- in comorbidity development. In the last years Prof. Frühbeck has been recipient of numerous awards and honours among others: The Nutrition Society’s Silver Medal, UK (2000), “Sir David Cuthbertson Medal” of the Nutrition Society, UK (2005), “AMA Prize” on Nutrition and Health of the Medical Association (2007), Pfizer Prize for a Professional Career in the field of Neuroendocrinology (2009), Commendation of her book “Obesity: Science to Practice” published by Wiley-Blackwell in the British Medical Association Book Awards (2010), Lilly Distinguished Career Award in Endocrinology & Nutrition (2011), Albert Struyvenberg Medal of the European Society for Clinical Investigation (2013) and British Medical Association Award in Medical Leadership (2017) Group Trajectory Award of the Spanish Society of Endocrinology & Nutrition (2017), NAOS Obesity Strategy Accesit in the hospital setting (2020), Danone Prize (2022). Prof. Frühbeck has served as Secretary, President-Elect, and President of the European Association for the Study of Obesity (EASO). Currently she is Co-Chair of the Scientific Advisory Board of EASO.

Carolina Perdomo
Carolina Perdomo, MD PhD, graduated in Medicine from the National Autonomous University of Honduras (UNAH, 2006–2014) with the honour of Magna Cum Laude.
In 2012, she participated in the Senior Elective Programme at Indiana University School of Medicine (USA). In 2020, she completed the Endocrinology and Nutrition residency program at the University of Navarra. In 2024, she defended her doctoral thesis titled “Adiposopathy, metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease, and cardiovascular disease” under the joint supervision of Professors Javier Escalada and Gema Frühbeck, which received the extraordinary award. She currently serves as a clinical collaborator in the Department of Endocrinology and Nutrition at the Clínica Universidad de Navarra and as an Associate Clinical Professor at the University of Navarra. She is presently an associate member of the European Society of Endocrinology, the European Association for the Study of Obesity, the Spanish Society of Endocrinology and Nutrition, the Spanish Society of Diabetes, the Navarre Society of Endocrinology and Nutrition, and the Spanish Society of Obesity.
