EASL is now calling for applications for the next Educational Councillor.  

The Educational Councillor serves as the Chair of the Educational Committee and is a member of the EASL Governing Board and EASL Management Committee. 

The mission of the Educational Committee is to provide scientific expertise and support to the EASL Governing Board and EASL office in the development and monitoring of a high-quality educational portfolio in support of EASL’s educational strategy and commitment to remaining a worldwide reference in liver-related education. The Educational Committee’s role is to contribute to the continuous education and professional development of hepatologists and other specialists, general practitioners, clinical and basic scientists as well as nurses and patients. 

Term: 

The successful candidate will serve as the Educational Councillor-Elect for one year, prior to starting a four-year term as Educational Councillor, member of the EASL Governing Board and member of the EASL Management Committee.  

The shadowing period will start after the General Assembly at EASL Congress 2026. This transitional period will allow the Councillor-elect to gain insight into the role and ensure continuity of responsibilities ahead of their formal start. The official term as Educational Councillor will commence after the General Assembly at EASL Congress 2027. 

Roles and Responsibilities 

The successful candidate will have an established track record of original research and excellent standing within the clinical community. The candidate will have profound experience in developing educational content for the hepatology community. 

Eligibility criteria: 

• The candidate must be an EASL member at the time of application. 
• The candidate must be professionally active in a European country, as defined by the World Health Organization. Particular attention will be paid to candidates with a strong background in medical education. 
• No age limit applies to this call for applications.

EASL is now calling for applications for three members to join the Scientific Committee.  

The mandate of the EASL Scientific Committee is to provide scientific expertise and support to EASL Governing Board and EASL office in the development and monitoring of the scientific activities of the organisation supporting EASL’s strategic decisions. 

Members of the Scientific Committee are part of the Governing Board and as such are expected to attend monthly conference calls with the Scientific Committee, mandatory Governing Board meetings (both digital and in-person), as well as representation at EASL Congress and other events. Term: 

The term for these members is from June 2026 to (and including) EASL Congress 2029. 

Eligibility criteria: 

• The candidate must be an EASL member when applying. 
• To ensure adequate representation of all EASL tracks applicants with a strong scientific track record in the following fields will be preferred: 
  • Basic Science 
  • Cirrhosis and its complications 
  • Metabolism, alcohol and toxicity 
• The candidate must be professionally active in a European country, as defined by the World Health Organization.  
• To maintain geographical diversity, professionals working in the following countries are excluded from this call, as they are already represented in the Scientific Committee: Austria, France, the Netherlands, and Spain. 
• The candidate must be under 48 years of age in May 2026 (in case of official parental leave, the eligible age is calculated by deducting the documented months of parental leave in accordance with applicable EU regulations from their actual age).

EASL is now calling for applications for two members to join the Basic Science Task Force.  

Basic biomedical sciences constitute a key foundation upon which the practice of medicine is built; EASL recognises the role of basic and translational research in leading to breakthroughs that allow for the development of novel prevention, diagnostic and therapeutic tools for patients with liver diseases. The EASL Basic Science (BS) Task Force aims to bring relevant research findings to the whole EASL community; and to collaborate with clinicians in identifying unmet medical and clinical needs to address in basic research.  

The BS Task Force holds an advisory role to the Governing Board on the following activities: 

• Work collaboratively on the EASL scientific research agenda. Develop links with biomedical research forums, committees and societies across Europe 
• Develop programmes, including the Basic Science Seminar at EASL Congress, intended to benefit researchers working on basic and translational science, as well as the general hepatology community 
• Provide a platform for scientists to network, exchange ideas, and interact with clinicians, to stimulate interdisciplinary collaboration and promote translation of scientific findings to the clinics 
• Work jointly with the EASL Office to attract more basic scientists to EASL 
• Foster growth and collaboration among young scientists, and increase their visibility, to inspire continued innovation and encourage others to join the field of hepatology 
• Collaborate in strengthening liver-related scientific research across Europe  
• Work together to establish educational activities for basic scientists  
• Propose networking activities during EASL Congress and other EASL events 
• Collaborate in drafting the criteria of the evaluation process of new members joining the Task Force 
• Advise the EASL Office on communication actions on social media and newsletters addressing activities specific to basic scientists 

 BS Task Force members are expected to be able to attend monthly conference calls, and an annual face-to-face meeting at EASL Congress.  

Term: 

BS Task Force members serve for a period of three years. The term for these two positions is from June 2026 to (and including) EASL Congress 2029. 

Eligibility criteria: 

• The candidate must be an EASL member when applying.    
• The candidate must have an MD and/or PhD.  
• The candidate must be living in a European country, as defined by the World Health Organization. 
• No age limit applies to this call for applications.    
• The Task Force already has members from Portugal, Spain and the Netherlands. Candidates from other countries are especially encouraged to apply.

EASL is now calling for applications for seven members to join the new EASL Pharmacy Task Force.   

The mission of the EASL Pharmacy Task Force is to foster multidisciplinary collaboration and enhance pharmaceutical care for patients affected by liver diseases. Our goal is to connect pharmacy professionals, including pharmacists and pharmacy technicians actively involved in liver disease management, creating a dynamic network to share best practices, improve clinical outcomes, and advance pharmaceutical care across Europe. Doing this on a European scale will allow us to target areas where this is yet to be fostered, supporting the EASL Governing Board and EASL Office in achieving the organisation’s overarching goals.

EASL is now calling for applications for three members to join the Young Investigators Task Force.  

The EASL Young Investigators Task Force is established to enhance the visibility, engagement, and development of early and mid-career professionals in hepatology within EASL’s framework. The YI Task Force aims to:

• Develop educational and community-building opportunities tailored to the needs of Young Investigators (YIs).
• Ensure active and meaningful representation of YIs across EASL activities.
• Provide advisory input to the EASL Governing Board, and other EASL committees and task forces on initiatives relevant to YIs.
• Promote professional growth, inclusion, and networking among early and mid-career hepatologists and researchers
• Enhance the recognition of outstanding early and mid-career researchers within the community.

Obligations:

The EASL YI Task Force members have the following roles and responsibilities:

• Attend monthly meetings online and two times per year in person
• Emerging Leader Award call annually
• Selection of new YI members once in three years
• During EASL Congress, organization of:

• • YI Seminar: The YI seminar deals with topics of interest for YIs that are not covered by other sessions at the EASL Congress. The scope of the Seminar is scientific.

• • YI Workshops: This session focuses on career aspects, professional and personal life of YIs and knowledge sharing.

• • YI Networking Event: takes place on Thursday evening during EASL Congress aiming to enhance networking between the YIs. Pre-registration is required.

• During EASL Summits:

• • YI Poster tours with abstract selection

• Communication: Members advise the EASL Office on communication actions on social media.
• Education: Providing educational content relevant for YIs in Webinars and Studios.
• Advice: When preparing EASL Congress, schools and masterclass programs, YI Task Force opinion is taken at initial stages to have their ideas / suggestions / input. Therefore, YI Task Force members are nominated as representative in other committees and Task Forces, as follows:

Young Investigators Task Force members serve for a period of three years. The term for these three positions is from June 2026 to EASL Congress 2029.

Eligibility criteria: 

• The candidate must be an EASL member when applying.  
• The candidate must be professionally active in a European country, as defined by the World Health Organisation.   
• The candidate should be preferably under 35 years of age (may be extended up to 40 years old in lieu of parental leave) in June 2026 (in case of official parental leave, the eligible age is calculated by deducting the documented months of parental leave in accordance with applicable EU regulations from their actual age).  
• For the new members, all backgrounds are eligible, but a particular attention will be paid to candidates with a strong background in basic science. 
• We encourage candidates with interest and skills in science communication,  
• The Task Force already has members from Germany, Italy and Denmark. Candidates from other countries are especially encouraged to apply.

Since its establishment in 2016, the Nurses & Allied Health Professionals (AHPs) Task Force has grown in influence and impact. Members drive excellence in liver care across Europe – shaping clinical education, leading research programmes, promoting evidence‑based practice, and influencing how liver care evolves.
