Implementation of submission fee for uninvited letters to the editor

In recent years, the Journal of Hepatology has witnessed a marked increase in the number of Letters to the Editor submitted for consideration. While we continue to value thoughtful academic dialogue and constructive critique of published work, we have observed that a substantial proportion of these submissions offer limited scholarly contribution.

This surge has placed considerable strain on the editorial process, diverting time and resources from the evaluation of full-length manuscripts and invited content. To adequately increase the editorial capacity and hence continue to promote vibrant academic exchange, the journal will implement a submission fee of €50 for all uninvited Letters to the Editor, effective November 15st.
